History | Intrepid: One Giant Leap: The Story Of Apollo w/ Jim T.

Join Jim to explore Intrepid's exhibit "When We Went to the M.” On July 20, 1969, over half a billion people were glued to television sets worldwide as astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon.

This completed the challenge President John F. Kennedy set forth just eight years before landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960’s. Many consider this the most significant achievement in the history of mankind. How did we get there? In the early 1960s, amid spectacular achievements by the Soviet Union, President Kennedy asked what project would be so bold as to impress the whole world.

Jim Tardiff is a born and raised New Yorker who has worked as an educator at the Intrepid Sea, Air, And Space Museum for nine years. As a Senior Educator, he is a specialist in space and aeronautics.
