For over fifty years, the American artist Alex Katz (b. 1927) has painted a series of portraits of his wife. In total, he has created more than 250 portraits of Ada Katz. Katz has portrayed her as a demure 20-something, a mother with a child, and a mature woman. Featuring the renowned progression of Ada's portraits, this slide talk demonstrates the cumulative power of portraiture and Katz’s devotion to the love of his life.
In addition to being a Museum Educator for the Guggenheim Museum, Sharon teaches graduate courses in museum education at NYU & Teacher’s College, Columbia University. She holds graduate degrees from SUNY at Albany & Hartford Art School. She is the author of 2 books: Museum Gallery Experiences: A Handbook and Interactive Museum Tours. Sharon Vatsky supervised school, youth, teacher, and family programs at the Guggenheim Museum for twenty years, leaving that position in 2021 (her last title was Director of Audience Engagement).
